FDIC’s ex-director: Bitcoin’s value is beautiful

27 December 2017 21:00, UTC

The former director of FDIC, or Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in America, has a good attitude towards Bitcoin which might seem surprising for the former civil servant. In her recent article on Yahoo Finance she tells it is not necessary to ban Bitcoin just because it does not have intrinsic value and suggest it has a psychological value instead. “Value — like beauty — is in the eye of beholder”, she states.

However, this attitude becomes less surprising once one gets the information about her participation in various blockchain projects, which means even if she thought about Bitcoin differently in the past, she expanded her knowledge while working on the said projects.

The statement will likely get many reposts in the cryptocurrency community, but alas, the majority of American civil servants are much more skeptical in this regard. Recently, Trump has signed the bill which closed the tax gap for cryptocurrency entrepreneurs and it also sets new taxes for cryptocurrency holders, which is entirely new measure for the United States. This might set the trend for governments in other countries as well and also makes Belarus more liberal that the United States — when it comes to digital currency taxation, of course.
