Famous investor hacked: $2 mln worth of crypto lost

16 April 2018 21:00, UTC

Ian Balina, a famous cryptoinvestor and video blogger, announces in his Twitter that his Etherscan cryptocurrency wallet was hacked for at least 2 mln dollars.

He claims that hackers have got an access to his old email, which was listed as a recovery to his main Gmail. After that, the other Balina’s accounts were hacked as well as Evernote, where he kept text versions of his private keys as encrypted text files with wallet passwords. It allowed to transfer all the money to hackers’ accounts.

This post of Balina raised suspicions among his 143 000 Twitter followers. This topic was quickly widespread and at the Bitcointalk topic there was a supposition that it was Balina’s way to avoid Tax Payments. 17th of April is the upcoming Tax Day in the USA and Twitter users have paid attention to a strange coincidence: the holder transferred almost all his funds into one wallet a week before being hacked. “Will an experienced trader and crypto holder do like this? It’s very suspicious,” one user wrote on Twitter.

Balina has denied such accusations and announced that he is cooperating with the investigation. According to him, specialists have been tracking token transfer to exchanges. The cryptoinvestor claims to be not so eager to get his money back as to catch thieves. Whatever it be, but the problem of security in the world of crypto investments is still relevant.
