01 January 2018 21:00, UTC

The Ethereum platform's own token began a new year by surpassing $900 for the first time this morning. ETH reached $914 (according to Coinmarketcap.com) and at the time of writing it was at the rate of $865.

According to CoinMarketCap, over the last 24 hours the cost of ETH has increased by 14.52 percent, and for the last week - by 13.62 percent.

Ethereum's surge comes as trading volumes keep increasing, especially in Asia, with Coinbene (Singapore), Binance (Hong Kong / Japan) and Bithumb (Korea).

The market capitalization of ETH currently stands at almost $85 billion, with a circulation of almost 79 million tokens.

At the end of last year, Ethereum was bypassed by Ripple in terms of market capitalization.

Ethereum hit its new milestone as bitcoin is trying to rise after dropping from $19,000 to around $13,000 in a few days before Christmas.
