Epic Games, a game development studio, and Lego, a well-known construction set company, have announced a partnership to jointly develop the metaverse. The ultimate goal of the partnership is to create a safe metaverse for children of all ages, within which they can positively communicate, play and be creative.

The Metaverse Initiative will be designed from the ground up to be suitable for children of all ages, according to a press release posted on the Epic Games website. Epic Games also announced the fundraising of $2 bln, which will be used to create a metaverse. The funds came from Sony, which has previously invested in Epic, and investment group KIRKBI. Both companies invested $1 bln each.

Neither company has specified a theme or characters that will be included in the metaverse. However, both companies already have experience creating metaverse-inspired worlds, and Fortnite is one of the most popular online games. Lego was behind an online game called Lego Worlds, which was launched in 2015 as a direct competitor to Minecraft.
