Dragonfly Research Claims Ethereum Is the "MS-DOS" of Blockchains

Dragonfly Research recently published an experiment that compared the performance of six blockchains, testing the capabilities of automated market makers (AMMs) on each chain. Decentralized exchange Solana Orca (DEX) reportedly emerged as the clear winner in terms of transactions per second. At the same time, Ethereum was called the "MS-DOS" of blockchains.

Over the years, Ethereum's lack of scalability has led to a massive migration to next-generation L1. Most of these L1s use the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), making them compatible with Ethereum wallets and developer tools. However, Solana has completely rebuilt its stack from the ground up and claims to be the fastest blockchain in existence. The researchers tested the AMM capabilities on each blockchain. They found that Solana's Orca DEX was the fastest with 273.34 transactions per second and new blocks every 590 milliseconds.

While the results of the report highlight Solana's higher performance, decentralization advocates point out other issues with Solana. The Spookyswap DEX team on Fantom Opera criticized the findings, stating that Solana is a fully centralized network, unlike Ethereum.
