Danone has introduced a blockchain to track milk products and verify their provenance. At the moment, the system works only in China. The company plans to launch a similar tracking and verification system for products in France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand by the end of this year.

Recent studies have shown that China ranks first among countries that manufacture counterfeit products. The system for tracking milk products and verifying their provenance on the blockchain is mainly aimed at ensuring the safety of baby food. Now the Danone product will have two QR codes: after scanning, you can find out information when and where the product is made, and how it arrived on the store shelf.

However, there is an opinion that in this process, the blockchain is useless. If the purchase is made and after it turns out that the product is not in the Danone ledger — the consequent actions of a buyer with the counterfeit product are not clear yet. Despite the questionable benefits of such a blockchain application, large companies such as Nestlé and Carrefour are already using the blockchain for similar purposes.
