Colombia's Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (MinTIC) has released a first-of-its-kind draft guideline calling for the public sector to adopt blockchain technology, including issues related to cryptocurrency payments. The ministry also noted that the country is lagging behind in the adoption of blockchain technology, citing countries in the European Union, China, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Canada.

A number of Colombian organizations have proposed ten solutions that can be implemented thanks to blockchain: cryptocurrency payments, land registration, voting, identity management, supply chains, medical records, business documents, graduate degrees, tax management and government tenders.

The solutions aim to eliminate third-party involvement in the security infrastructure using blockchain technology, thereby increasing reliability and transparency in data management.
