Chainalysis reports that cryptocurrency transactions of $ 1 trillion were carried out in 2019. Only 1.1% of them were illegal. This indicates that the cryptocurrency market is becoming “healthier” compared to the first years of its existence. This is likely due to the growth and development of the cryptocurrency industry, as well as an increase in the use of digital money. Thus, the percentage of illegal transactions and the influence of Darknet are noticeably reduced.

Chainalysis also notes that since 2018, the success of cybercriminals has declined remarkably. Exchanges have introduced more complex cybersecurity measures. In addition, industry-wide collaboration and coordination with various law enforcement agencies help protect the entire ecosystem.

The last few years of market development have proven that cryptocurrencies are not for criminals. Surveys have shown that cryptocurrency adaptation is going fast — 18% of all Americans and 35% of American millennials purchased cryptocurrency last year. Popular retailers like Amazon and Starbucks now allow their customers to pay with bitcoins.
