Casper ready for testnet stage, Ethereum development team says

Ethereum developers want to use the code of experimental proof-of-stake Casper protocol as a base for a new network, reports tell.

During the most recent meeting of the ETH dev team, Vitalik Buterin told that the Casper project is now ready for testing and will eliminate some security problems in client-to-client interactions.

Ropsten is currently the only testnet that works with different clients, and unlike Casper, it’s built on a proof-of-work concept. Sometimes Ropsten becomes a TARGET OF HACKERS. Coven and Rinkeby testnets, however, use yet another protocol version: proof-of-authority. This framework makes attacks similar to those targeted on Ropsten impossible, but it is not universally compatible.

Casper is not ready for integration in the primary Ethereum protocol just yet, told the developers. The team still has to improve unspecified security measures, but the testnet is underway. Buterin believes that security issues can be solved jointly, with representatives of each protocol types.

Security is one of the primary concerns of both Ethereum enthusiasts and developers, especially after that unfortunate situation with frozen assets in Parity wallets.
