Bosch And Wien Energie Are Testing The “Blockchain Fridge”

05 April 2019 07:58, UTC

The largest Austrian energy supplier Wien Energie and technology giant Bosch are developing a blockchain-driven refrigerator, as it was announced at the ANON Blockchain Summit in Vienna, Austria.

The main objective of the project is to increase consumer interest in rational energy consumption. Here, blockchain allows users to choose the source of energy, whether it is a solar panel or a wind power plant: each kilowatt can be traced to its origin. Blockchain fridge is fully controlled via smartphone. The user can control the temperature of the refrigerator and freezer, check whether the door is properly closed, monitor energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

According to an official statement, the blockchain fridge has not yet gone on sale: partners are planning to test this model in the coming months. Wien Energie CEO Peter Gönitzer considers blockchain to be an excellent opportunity to reduce unnecessary waste of energy. The Austrian company also plans to test the introduction of the blockchain in the energy sector on a global scale.
