BitPay still did not implement SegWit and has problems with transaction fees

25 December 2017 21:00, UTC

The reports in the cryptocurrency-related media suggest that the payment system called BitPay is experiencing just what the SegWit supporters warned about. It has not added support of this Bitcoin protocol upgrade and had to raise the minimum sum of payment from 5 to 100 USD, but then it returned this sum to its initial number of five dollars again.

Tweets coming from the users in response to the official BitPay Twitter announcements often contain inquiries about why the heck BitPay still have not added SegWit support. And it should be noted here that this protocol change was supported by the majority of Bitcoin community. Yes, we have seen a new cryptocurrency called Bitcoin Cash as a result of SegWit, and its greatest fans even called the original Bitcoin obsolete, but this all did not lead to any disaster in almost half a year.

Nobody knows why BitPay decided to reject SegWit and suffer losses as a result. Furthermore, the audience is offered to believe the announcements just because they are official, while this temporary raise of the payment minimum could have had a manipulative nature.
