Bitfinex stops working with American clients

16 October 2017 21:00, UTC
The popular Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency exchange, Bitfinex, has decided to cease operations with the residents of the United States of America. The notice regarding this has been published on the exchange’s official website.
“We are terminating trading, deposits, and withdrawal functionality for U.S. individual customers by no later than November 9, 2017. U.S. customers are already barred from receiving financing from other users on Bitfinex’s peer-to-peer financing platform. This restriction will remain and, in addition, U.S. individual customers will no longer be able to provide financing on Bitfinex effective November 9, 2017.
All U.S. individual users must make arrangements to withdraw their Digital Tokens by November 9th,” Bitfinex warns.
As the media notes, cryptocurrency traders are surprised by this decision but they liked the clarity of the statement. It is, however, peculiar to see a major corporation that views the United States as a place with non-beneficial business climate, something currently unimaginable on the fiat market: from this point of view, the United States is still one of the most prestigious countries in the world.
