Bitcoin becomes the #2 most searched in Global News this year — Google Trends

13 December 2017 21:00, UTC

We have recently written about the Russian search engine, Yandex, publishing its top trends of 2017. According to the data they posted, the Russian equivalent for cryptocurrency became number one in Top Ten most searched things and events during the past year.

Now Google posts its search data statistics as well, and Bitcoin is the second in the list of most searched global news. The first one in the list is, sadly, Hurricane Irma, which has become a national disaster in the United States together with Hurricane Harvey. Those who wanted to help the victims even decided to finance the aiding organizations in Bitcoin, and some people even decided to go to the damaged places and bring there supplies, while streaming the journey online and getting bitcoins to buy more goods the victims needed.

In the “How to...” category, “how to buy Bitcoin” has taken the bronze, becoming the third in the top. This is yet another illustration of the growth of this cryptocurrency: everybody who bought Bitcoin after looking up how to do this has stimulated the further growth. The result is seen on Coinmarketcap: Bitcoin is now $16,715, which is ten times more than its price in January 2017.
