Bitcoin Atom planned to release this month

08 January 2018 21:00, UTC

Bitcoin Atom, the new altcoin that is planned to be launched this month, is going to be focused on atomic swaps. Developers who plan to create a cryptocurrency usually choose a field in which this coin is going to develop. For example, Bitcoin Gold is focused on mining without big ASICs, old school style. Bitcoin Atom (BCA) will be built with fast atomic swaps, which simply means it is going to be very easy to change this currency to some other without the use of any exchanges or converters.

The roadmap on the project website (if one manages to ignore the pretentious interface) tells that not all promised features would be enabled simultaneously with the fork activation. The official blog of the development team on Medium warns of scammers posing as Bitcoin Atom and explains the advantages of atomic swaps. However, there is no visible announcement on which Bitcoin’s block exactly is the team going to activate the fork.

All in all, the altcoin is worth observation, but it has not proven viable in practice yet, which makes any prognoses on its possible price pointless. Bitcoin has had many forks, and while some of them managed to hold the third place on Coinmarketcap for a relatively long time, others became forgotten soon after the release.
