AMD decides to develop a special mining software

16 August 2017 21:00, UTC

The large CPU and GPU manufacturer is developing a new driver (the software that optimizes the use of GPU) titled Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition Beta for Blockchain Compute Highlights. The message regarding this new product has appeared on the AMD official website. This is still a beta version, so it might work not always as good as intended. The company specifically notes that this driver will not allow the user to comfortably play computer games or render graphics, as it was designed for blockchain technological calculations. However, this software offers improved performance for cryptocurrency miners.

This decision by AMD to create and issue drivers specifically for cryptocurrency enthusiasts tells that the high management of this company admits it’s important to keep in touch with the cryptocurrency community. It’s still unknown if we are going to see special video cards made for miners, but AMD clearly wants cryptocurrency miners to know their presence is known and being taken into consideration, although lately the CEO of this corporation, Liza Su, stated that the cryptocurrency mining is not the long term growth driver for AMD.
