An Amazon spokesman said that the company's plans to accept bitcoin payments and investigate issuing its own token next year are false. Earlier in a report by City AM, citing Amazon insiders, it was argued that the e-commerce giant plans to accept bitcoin payments and is looking into issuing its own token in 2022.

Many in the community have questioned the authenticity of the report and the reliability of the insiders. However, it didn't take long for the company to make an official statement and declare City AM's report to be false.

The Amazon spokesman said:

“Notwithstanding our interest in the space, the speculation that has ensued around our specific plans for cryptocurrencies is not true. We remain focused on exploring what this could look like for customers shopping on Amazon. ”

This news hit the market hard and bitcoin lost over $2,000 in a matter of minutes. At the time of writing, bitcoin is trading at $37,928 after hitting an intraday high of around $40,500.
