Kenneth Rogoff, Harvard: the future with $100 Bitcoin is more likely than with $100K Bitcoin

05 March 2018 21:00, UTC

Kenneth Rogoff, Professor of Economics at Harvard University who has also worked as a chief researcher for the IMF in the early 2000s does not think that Bitcoin would reach $100,000 in the future decade. He stated this during his interview to CNBC.

As one can clearly see from this interview, he mainly views Bitcoin as a money laundering tool. Professor Rogoff thinks that the world seriously needs to consider tightening cryptocurrency regulations (after which the price will go down), and if Japan does not reconsider its approach, it will become a Bitcoin money laundering hub. Japan, as it has to be reminded here, is the most liberal first-world country when it comes to Bitcoin.

Ken Rogoff has already expressed his opinion about digital currencies in the past and he did not considerably change his position since then. He noted the possible future price collapse in October 2017 and it actually happened later after Bitcoin hit $20,000.

Another economist, Nouriel “Dr Doom” Roubini, is a lot less reticent about digital currencies. This has already turned out to be a disservice for him when during the recent local bearish trend he proclaimed that prices are going to zero.
