IBM to issue new eco token

15 May 2018 21:00, UTC

IBM’s blockchain endeavors have finally led it to the realm of tokens, as reported by several trustworthy outlets. The corporation has combined efforts with Veridium Labs and the project will be dedicated to the issue of offset carbon credits. The press already knows the blockchain two firms chose to work upon - Stellar. This has not affected the price of Stellar Lumens, and rightly so - the cryptocurrency has almost nothing to do with the news.

IBM’s digital currency which has been mentioned on Bitnewstoday in March this year might be exactly this token. As a reminder, Jesse Lund overseeing finance blockchain technologies has unveiled plans of IBM to create a Stellar-based international token in the AMA session on Reddit. Central banks have agreed to work with this project, Lund stated.

The token is called Verde in some articles, its basic goal will be to track the carbon footprint. Carbon dioxide pollution is one of the pressing environmental issues, potentially it can change climate in the long term.

The “regenerative economy” has been mentioned in connection with this tracking tool potential, indicating this is not going to be the last financial blockchain project IBM is ever going to make.
