How to pitch for investors

ICO pitches are popular. Every team wants to establish the straight connections with investors. I have been moderating one of the most significant Russia ICO Shows at World Blockchain summit at 26th of April and at WBCSummit at 20th of may. There were 38 ICOs in total, and I had a chance to observe the most common pitchers’ failings. So what did I notice? I will try to summarize the main «pitch hacks» which help ICOs to be more appealing to investors.

First of all, you should get how an investor thinks. His (or her) logic is pretty simple:

  1. How will this project increase my status, my value and my wealth?
  2. Is the team experienced enough to help me in achieving my goals?
  3. Does this team know how to deal with money? Don't these guys lose my money if I invest?

Actually, that is everything that any investor is thinking about. So what you should and shouldn’t do if you want to be heard.

1. DON’T do a lengthy introduction about happy blockchain future for all of us in the digital economics etc. Everyone at ICO show knows these general statements, and there are no random people at such events. Don’t waste their time.

DO! Go straight to the point: what is your project about, what is it for, how it will work and how you will execute it.

2. DON’T repeat your website. It is open for everybody and contains too much insignificant information.

DO! Show and tell something the audience will not get from your public sources. Something relevant to 3 central questions mentioned above.

3. DON’T show screenshots with your team (from your website again) if there is no celebrity or lead around there. Nobody knows your colleagues, believe me, and nobody needs to memorize his or her names and faces. No.

DO! Just speak like a pro about how you will use somebody’s money when you get it. So how your project will bring profits eventually. Show your awareness by your short and insightful speech. Short and Insightful.

So if you do, six or even three minutes will be enough for you. The elevator speech is essentially more shortly — just 30 seconds! No one complains. Conversely, people are trying to develop the short-speech skills hardly. So you should do the same.
