The South Korean electronic giant, Samsung is reported to have filed for cryptocurrency wallet trademark in the UK.
Despite continuously refuting the rumor of having crypto wallet in their next smartphone model, Samsung is reported to seek for a trademark for cryptocurrency wallet in the UK.
According to the application document filed on the UK Intellectual Property Office, the classes and terms section mentioned “Computer software for use as a cryptocurrency wallet; Computer software for cryptocurrency transfer and payment using blockchain technology; Computer application software for smartphones, namely, software to allow users to transfer cryptocurrency based on blockchain technology and pay via 3rd party’s application software.”
In addition to that, Cointelegraph reported that the South Korea-based electronic company is currently in the middle of the process of getting three European Union trademarks for blockchain and crypto-related software.
Aside from Samsung, other smartphone manufacturers have also been reported to have developed blockchain-related products. As reported by Chepicap earlier this month, HTC just launched their first blockchain phone, Exodus, which coincided with Sirin Labs’ unveiling theirs, which is named FINNEY.
However, when it comes to “mass adoption” of crypto, the “hope” probably lies on Samsung’s “participation”. As the world’s most used smartphone with over 20% of the total market share, they definitely hold the power to “educate” the public about cryptocurrency, even with a simple embedded crypto wallet on their smartphone series.
