While the cryptocurrency market was reeling from the $6.3 billion hack attack on Binance, the world’s largest exchange, another hack attack occurred.

At this point, it appears that BTCPay, which enables companies to accept Bitcoin payments after Binance, has also been subjected to a hacking attack.

Unauthorized Money Transfers Are Taking Place!

BTCPay Server, the open-source Bitcoin payment infrastructure, has launched an investigation and issued an urgent security alert following user complaints about unauthorized cryptocurrency transfers from hot wallets on some servers.

The official statement called on server operators to shut down their systems immediately and disconnect their servers from the internet until the investigation is complete.

The attackers reportedly targeted businesses’ internet-connected hot wallets and servers using versions 2.4.1 and older.

However, the BTCPay team stated that they have not received any credible complaints regarding hot wallets being emptied on systems using the latest version, 2.4.7. Users were also urged to keep their software updated.

However, the team has not yet provided details on how the attack occurred or how many $BTC were withdrawn from the wallets. The team also requested that users who believe they were affected share their server logs and any information related to the incident.

Nicolas Dorier, co-founder of BTCPay Server, stated that the attackers gained administrator privileges on the affected servers, but how this access was obtained has not yet been determined.
