The exploit allowed attackers to forge cross-chain messages and create about 1 billion unbacked bridged $DOT tokens. They exchanged some tokens for legitimate cryptocurrency, with initial losses estimated at $237,000.
Further analysis later raised the estimated impact to approximately $2.5 million, including damage to incentive pools across Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain and Arbitrum.
Hyperbridge Rebuilds After Security Breach
Hyperbridge suspended bridging operations after discovering weaknesses in transaction verification and administrative controls.
The team subsequently rebuilt key components and retired the vulnerable Token Gateway contract. The protocol resumed operations in June 2026 under a revised architecture.
