On Tuesday at 3:30 a.m., the three armed men used a ladder to invade the house and then broke into the victim’s bedroom to subdue him. The victim was forced at gunpoint to open a safe and deliver funds in cash and three luxury watches to the masked men.
The gang also forced the man to transfer cryptocurrency valued at $820K, which was subsequently sold. Later, the man was able to escape and report the crime to the authorities.
It is still unknown whether the victim was targeted for his crypto holdings or the attackers found out about his cryptocurrency at the site.
Police Region 2 is already investigating. Police Region 2 Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Wasan Techa-akrakesom stated that they have made significant progress, and the Immigration Bureau has been included in the probe.
Reports indicate that the car used by the attackers was found abandoned in a remote area, and that police authorities have managed to identify the car in CCTV footage on October 5, the day before the robbery was executed.
Police are also tracking the digital assets sold to identify the people behind the accounts involved in the sale and recover the stolen funds.
The attack marks yet another “wrench attack” incident, where crypto holders are deliberately targeted by attackers who use coercion and violence to steal cryptocurrency. Blockchain auditing firm Chainalysis estimated that criminals stole over $30 million in this kind of violent attack in the first half of 2026.
Chilling accounts of pregnant women being threatened in the UK and even rock stars and their families being murdered in Mexico have risen recently as cryptocurrency gets mainstream attention and increased adoption.
