A crypto user reportedly lost about $2.1 million in FXRP after receiving a phishing link through ChatGPT. Blockchain investigator VAL reported the incident on X Thursday, saying the victim lost about 1.9 million FXRP while seeking help swapping sFLR for WFLR.
The victim, who goes by Alex on X, said ChatGPT directed him to a website that appeared suitable for the swap. He connected his wallet and approved the transaction.

“I asked ChatGPT where to swap sFLR for WFLR. Its answer contained a link — it led to a phishing site,” Alex said.
How the Wallet Drain Happened
Alex said he approved an “unlimited approve” transaction, allowing the attacker to use transferFrom to move his FXRP within seconds. He later shared transaction details and wallet addresses to help trace the stolen funds.

VAL also tracked transactions involving $DAI, $FLR and $ETH. The investigator identified 380,000 $DAI in one wallet, while another 310,000 $DAI was transferred elsewhere. VAL also reported that 889 $ETH was sent to another wallet.
Alex warned other victims about recovery scammers, who often target people after crypto losses.
AI Links Raise Phishing Risks
VAL said it tested ChatGPT in several languages after the incident and found that the phishing link no longer appeared in its responses.
The incident highlights the risks of relying on AI-generated links when handling crypto transactions. In August, phishing campaigns targeting Hyperliquid users through fraudulent advertisements caused about $550,000 in losses, according to VAL.
