This negative development has raised concerns that the network may face a blockchain restructuring deep enough to roll back approximately three days’ worth of transactions.
According to the statement, the 2Miners and RavenMiner mining pools currently control the majority of the network’s hash rate and have begun mining on an alternative chain, excluding the exploited branch, starting from a height of 4,487,776. If the miners who are said to dominate the network decide to allow this alternative chain to become dominant, the chain could be rolled back four days, returning to its state before August 7th, the date the attack began.
Such a deep reorganization could mean removing certain transactions from the blockchain history and re-executing them. This therefore poses a significant risk, particularly for deposit and withdrawal transactions on exchanges.
Therefore, the Ravencoin team recommended that exchanges temporarily suspend RVN deposits and withdrawals until the network stabilizes.
The project also reported that transactions verified after block number 4,487,775 should be considered at risk.
Following this development, exchanges such as Bithumb and Upbit temporarily suspended RVN deposit and withdrawal transactions. They also stated that a warning status was applied to RVN.
The security vulnerability in the network and the potential reorg risk directly impacted the RVN price. Ravencoin’s price dropped by approximately 20% within minutes of the news spreading.
