The almost perfect scam of Ripple

In the blockchain and crypto world, there are often criminals who use different methods to put together scams for stealing money from unsuspecting victims, this time using a fake version of Ripple.

Traditionally these scams are organized by posting on Medium using fake profiles of famous people or known crypto projects, with the request to send cryptocurrencies in order to receive a higher return.

This time the criminals have gone further and created a really elaborate scam involving Ripple (XRP). This scam, in fact, has long been under the eyes of the company itself, which has set up a dedicated plan.

The scam of a fake Ripple

Essentially, criminals managed to create an identical copy of Ripple’s Medium page, but when checking the address, it is clear that it is not really Ripple’s real blog, but on a website registered in Russia.

The post is really elaborate and with a lot of detailed information, about dates, figures and processes: in short, nothing that suggests a scam.

Take a look at how legit it looks!

Scammer must have spend quite some time to create this!

What is described in the post is a 2 billion XRP airdrop that started on May 28th. To participate you must register your Ripple address, so as to be “verified” and be declared eligible for this airdrop.

There are no cryptocurrencies to send or complex procedures, as what is asked is to simply connect to RippleNet, enter one’s XRP address and wait for the confirmation message.

These criminals operate through email, sending a message that apparently can deceive anyone, but that actually hides a virus.

Unfortunately, as mentioned, this scam was engineered so perfectly that even an information site published the news believing that the airdrop was real and legitimate.
