At the end of the summer, American law enforcement officers confiscated about $ 2.3 million in digital currency from a hacker from Russia.

The criminal is currently in the territory of the Russian Federation. We are talking about Alexander Sikerin, who may be associated with the REvil hacker group, also known in the media as Sodinokibi.

The FBI was able to access his crypto wallet. Then the intelligence officers found out that Sikerin used ransomware viruses to break into databases of American infrastructure facilities.

The hacker group has been operating since April 2019. Since then, it has mined more than $ 200 million in digital currency.

Note that the FBI suspects another Russian citizen, Evgeny Polyanin, of cybercrimes. He was put on the wanted list in early November. With the help of ransomware viruses, he received $ 13 million from his victims; of this amount, law enforcement officers managed to return more than $ 6 million.

Recently, a Ukrainian Yaroslav Vasinets, who is also associated with the REvil group, was detained in Poland. He faces extradition to the United States, where he is also suspected of developing services that are used to exchange cryptocurrencies.
