Velodrome and Aerodrome, decentralized cryptocurrency exchanges operating on Optimism and Base, once again fell victim to a domain attack.

A few days ago, two platforms were subjected to a similar attack. Both teams confirmed that their domains were reclaimed.

Exchanges warned their users about this attack, which came right after a similar attack on November 29. Both the Aerodrome and Velodrome teams posted the same messages on their respective X accounts, saying “It looks like our provider has been hacked again” and advising users not to interact with the websites.

The issue was resolved within hours and both teams posted the same messages stating “Domains have been restored and are blocked at the TLD level while awaiting transfer to a new provider.” They assured users that their decentralized frontend was not compromised throughout the incident.

According to domain records, the websites of both projects were managed by Porkbun.

Aerodrome, which operates on the Ethereum Layer 2 network Base, previously claimed to be a “separate and independent entity” from Velodrome, which operates on the Ethereum L2 OP+ Mainnet (previously known as Optimism). According to DefiLlama's data, each exchange is the largest exchange in its network in terms of Total Value Locked (TVL).

The impact of these attacks on user assets remains unclear. However, blockchain researcher ZachXBT estimates that over $100,000 in funds could be affected.
