FTX Hacker on the Move: Millions in Crypto Assets Shifting

An individual with malicious intent, responsible for breaching the troubled cryptocurrency exchange FTX during its tumultuous period, has recently initiated the transfer of a substantial sum in cryptocurrency assets.

According to data from the blockchain analysis platform Arkham, the FTX hacker, who possesses a digital asset portfolio valued at over $300 million, has moved Ethereum (ETH) for the first time since 2022, transferring about $8 million worth of the cryptocurrency via RailGun (RAIL) and Thorchain (RUNE).

The wallet known as “FTX Exploiter” contains a mix of assets, including $1.7 million in Dai (DAI), $3.97 million in Tether (USDT), $30,000 in USDC, $43,000 in Binance Coin (BNB), $42,000 in Bitcoin (BTC), and $8,500 in Wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC).

In November 2022, during FTX’s bankruptcy declaration, it was revealed that the exchange had experienced a $383 million security breach.

At that time, Ryne Miller, FTX’s general counsel, warned users not to access the FTX website due to malware risks and confirmed the retrieval of some funds.

Subsequently, the hacker consolidated the stolen assets into Ethereum, becoming one of the world’s largest Ethereum holders.

Data from the Ethereum explorer Etherscan showed that the “FTX Accounts Drainer” wallet had risen to become the 35th-largest Ethereum holder globally.
