Riot Platforms sold 1,818 BTC for $161.6 million in December after the “hashprice,” a revenue indicator in Bitcoin mining, fell back to its cycle lows.

According to the company’s monthly production update, this sale reduced Riot’s Bitcoin treasury from 19,368 BTC at the end of November to 18,005 BTC.

The Colorado-based mining company announced that it achieved an average price of $88,870 per Bitcoin in its December sales. While this figure represents a decrease of approximately 8 percent compared to the average of $96,560 in November, total sales revenue increased by 337 percent month-on-month, rising from $37 million to $162 million.

The December liquidation was noted as the largest single-month Bitcoin sale in Riot’s history and only the third period in 2025 to see a net decrease in its treasury. Despite this, the company appears to be continuing to expand its operational capacity.

According to the update, Riot’s Bitcoin mining in December was 460 BTC. While this represents an 8% increase from the 428 BTC in November, it remains 11% below its December 2024 performance. The squeeze in mining profitability continues to be felt across the sector; the hashprice indicator has hovered near cycle lows for much of the last quarter.

The company announced that it increased its commissioned hashrate capacity to 38.5 EH/s in December, representing a 5 percent increase compared to November and a 22 percent increase compared to a year earlier. Average operational hashrate also rose to 34.9 EH/s, a 27 percent growth year-on-year.

Power credits generated from demand response and reduction programs implemented to offset energy costs were reported at $6.2 million in December. This represents a 171 percent increase compared to $2.3 million in November, partially offsetting expenses during periods of increased grid stress.
