  • MTN, a mobile network operator, became one of the first South African companies to enter into Metaverse by purchasing 144 plots of digital land in Ubuntuland.
  • MTN’s marketing group executive, Bernice Samuels, says its move to enter into cryptocurrency is backed by its Ambition 2025 Strategy.
  • MTN aims to increase “customer attractiveness” with its move in Metaverse. It also believes the move will also open opportunities for other companies to innovate in Metaverse.

According to the reports, South Africa’s largest mobile network operator, MTN, recently bought 144 plots of digital lands in the Ubuntuland metaverse. After the purchase, MTN became one of the South African companies to enter the Metaverse.

MTN is now the owner of 144 plots with an area of 12 square meters, as per the reports of Mybroadband. Mybroadband is the latest technology news website in South Africa. It was launched in 2003 as a consumer advocacy forum. It aims to solve the then broadband problems of the country.

Bernice Samuels, MTN’s marketing group executive, shares how its metaverse stunt aligns with its Ambition 2025 strategy. He explains that the move is ideally based on Ambition 2025 that leverages trends that improve consumers’ digital experience and engagement.

He further says that the company has always been on the front end of digital and technological changes and that they are always spellbound about the exciting opportunities in Metaverse that it has in store for them and their customers.

Furthermore, the mobile network operator stated that this beginning in the Metaverse would open doors for many more South African companies to innovate in the booming technology.

MTN’s Goal Is To Increase “Customer Attractiveness”

Through its venture in Metaverse, MTN plans to attract more customers or “customer attractiveness,” as the report explains. The report further stated that this would be achieved through a number of experiences that intersect with consumers’ passion points, such as gaming and music.

However, the MTN Group did not reveal the details of its future plans in the Metaverse. It is highly likely that it will either be a mixed reality (MR) or a virtual reality platform for users to engage with its products. At the same time, it transitions from a technology company to a telecommunications company.

Unlike many other African governments that did not have a positive outlook on cryptocurrency, countries like South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya have come in support of blockchain technology use in the future. In addition, the NFT craze is also increasing among celebrities and crypto enthusiasts in Africa.
