The world’s largest restaurant chain has applied for ten patents to sell virtual goods. Then, and beverages as downloadable media files containing non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The startup, which is based in Chicago, is planning to open a virtual café that will sell both real and virtual goods.

According to one of the trademark filings, McDonald’s also aims to host other entertainment events in the metaverse, including concerts.

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, recently pushed McDonald’s to adopt meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin by promising to eat a Happy Meal on television if they did. The fast-food business scoffed at the idea and demanded that Tesla add support for the fictitious cryptocurrency Grimacecoin in exchange.

In the aftermath of the crypto meltdown in January, McDonald’s began teasing the cryptocurrency community.
