BTSE Bhutan received an In-Principle Approval (IPA) from the Gelephu Financial Services Office to move toward obtaining a Financial Services License. BTSE is a cryptocurrency exchange and digital asset infrastructure company. The approval is an early regulatory step and does not yet allow the company to begin regulated operations.

If the final conditions are completed successfully, BTSE Bhutan will be able to operate in two areas. The company plans to run a multilateral trading facility for virtual assets and provide institutional custody services for storing and protecting digital assets. Together, these permissions would allow the platform to support both trading activity and secure asset storage under the local regulatory framework.

The approval is tied to plans inside Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a special administrative region in Bhutan created for long-term economic growth and technology development. The project focuses on sustainable infrastructure and aims to attract new businesses in digital finance and innovation.

BTSE Bhutan says it plans to build a local team and hire talent within the country as operations expand. The company also sees its role as part of a broader effort to support the development of a regulated virtual asset ecosystem in the region.
