The US Department of War on Friday published the first batch of previously classified UFO files, formally termed UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena), as part of a new government framework known as PURSUE, or the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters.
The released materials comprise videos, photos, and documents that were previously withheld from public view and are now available through a dedicated website, with further releases scheduled over time.
The effort brings together multiple agencies, including the White House, intelligence offices, DOE, NASA, FBI, and others. More files will continue to be posted at WAR.GOV/UFO over time.
This release follows President Donald Trump’s order to make government UAP records public to increase transparency. Officials say the materials were checked for security issues but still need further analysis.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth framed the release as a response to years of “justified speculation” fueled by classification barriers.
“These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves,” Hegseth stated.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard described the effort as “a careful, comprehensive, and unprecedented review” of intelligence community holdings.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman was more measured, saying NASA’s role is to “follow the data” and remain “candid about what we know to be true, what we have yet to understand, and all that remains to be discovered.”
