For the second time in a one-week span, the nomination of Brian Quintenz as U.S. President Donald Trump’s new Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) may have once again been delayed after his name was removed from the meeting agenda for the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. The committee has oversight of the CFTC which regulates agricultural commodities. Quintenz is a former CFTC commissioner and currently heads policy at the crypto arm of Andreessen Horowitz, a prominent venture capital firm. Quintenz’s name was suddenly removed from the vote roster during another meeting by the same committee last week. Many speculate something could be amiss regarding Quintenz’s nomination, although no official reason has been given for the removal of his name. Quintenz was a 2016 Obama-era CFTC commissioner nominee. When Trump began his first presidential term in 2017, he withdrew Quintenz’s nomination before later reinstating it. The former hedge fund manager then served as one of five CFTC commissioners until 2021.
