Ripple Labs CEO, Brad Garlinghouse has gained attention for his call, to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris to distance herself from legislators opposed to cryptocurrency. This request coincides with the growing influence of crypto policies in politics.

Brad Garlinghouse made the remarks soon after US Representative Brad Sherman took a swipe at Bitcoin on social media. He argued that the crypto community may not vote for candidates with such views.

It would behoove VP Harris to not listen to (and distance herself asap from) folks like this who spout utter nonsense.

The Dems aren't winning any votes for being anti-crypto (and thus anti-innovation), while the Republicans are gaining votes for embracing and encouraging… https://t.co/x3DurB6dlx

Garlinghouse said that in her presidential campaign, Harris’s ideas about regulating cryptocurrencies could be crucial. This is relevant because Biden has publicly supported her as the Democratic candidate for the next elections. His advice reflects a wider sentiment in the crypto industry regarding the requirement for friendly lawmakers.

Crypto Influence on Elections

Cryptocurrency is gradually finding its way into the political landscape. Garlinghouse mentioned that a candidate’s stance on cryptocurrency could impact their chances of winning an election. This is especially the case since the Democrats, who have an inclined view toward cryptocurrencies, are paving their way to the 2024 race. The CEO of Ripple said that Harris could continue getting the support of the increasing number of crypto voters by avoiding anti-crypto statements.

In addition, several lawmakers, like Senators Cynthia Lummis and Kirsten Gillibrand, remain interested in cryptocurrency. This indicates that bipartisan backing for cryptocurrency could be feasible and beneficial for election strategies.

Harris’s Crypto Stance and Public Perception

Despite her Silicon Valley background, which may indicate a favorable attitude toward technology and innovation, Harris recently denied an invitation to speak at the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville. The choice has caused dissatisfaction, among the crypto community with some viewing it as a missed opportunity to connect with figures in the industry.

The decision followed a change in plans by presidential nominee Donald Trump regarding the debate schedule. Trump attributed the rescheduling to her absence at the conference. These series of events have sparked inquiries into Harriss stance on issues, within the cryptocurrency community.

Justin Sun Comments

The founder of the Tron cryptocurrency project, Justin Sun, offered his take on the matter in a playful dig at Harris’s campaign strategy. He proposed a parody of the famous “Make America Great Again” slogan used by former President Donald Trump.

Kamala's campaign slogan could be "Make America Laugh Again," abbreviated as MALA.

Sun’s remarks reflect a sentiment among some in the crypto community about the need for a more engaged and supportive approach from potential presidential candidates.

As the 2024 elections approach, the dialogue between crypto industry leaders and politicians is expected to intensify, with implications for both the political and financial landscapes.
