French financial regulator Autorité des Marchés financiers (AMF) is calling for regulation of cryptocurrency operators. In particular, the AMF is pushing for mandatory and faster licensing of crypto entities that are not registered to provide services in the country, agency chairman Marie-Anne Barbat Layani said on January 6.

Layani's call comes after a proposal by the French Senate for digital asset players to seek new registrations ahead of the European Union's new Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA). It is worth noting that French lawmakers have proposed new laws requiring crypto companies to receive new operating mandates by October 1, 2023, when the MiCa laws are expected to take effect.

Currently, there are several well-known cryptocurrency-related companies based in France, such as the trading platform Binance. Part of the registration of crypto operators includes checking the management of specific companies and compliance with anti-money laundering laws.
