Today Bloomberg reported that new details have surfaced surrounding Michael Patryn, aka Omar Dhanani, who co-founded QuadrigaCX with the late Gerry Cotten. It seems Patryn spent 18 months in US prison on charges related to credit card fraud and larceny.
According to the report, Dhanani originally changed his name to Omar Patryn in 2003, and finally to Michael Patryn in 2008. In 2005 he plead guilty to conspiracy to commit credit-and-bank card fraud, and in 2007 he also plead gulty to burglary, grand larceny and computer fraud.
After serving his sentence he was deported to Canada, where he eventually began to brand himself as a Bitcoin guru. In late 2013 he launched QuadrigaCX along with Cotten but claims he left the company three years ago over "fundamental disagreements."
Patryn is quoted in the article:
"On the day of our disagreement, I left the company and ceased being privy to operational decisions... Since that time, I have not been involved in the operations or management of any of the Quadriga companies."
Patryn says he did speak to Cotten in November, but was unaware of his death until the news broke worldwide.
