HyperPlay, the innovative Web3-native game launcher and aggregator of multiple game stores, has announced a significant milestone with the closing of its first-ever funding round. The Series A investment, totaling $12 million, was co-led by industry powerhouses Griffin Gaming Partners and BITKRAFT Ventures. Other notable investors include ConsenSys, the parent company of MetaMask, Ethereal Ventures, Delphi, Game7, Mirana Ventures, Monoceros Ventures, and more. This funding round marks a pivotal moment for HyperPlay, which was launched in November last year as a collaboration between MetaMask, the leading self-custody Web3 wallet, and Game7, a DAO focused on building Web3 gaming infrastructure.

HyperPlay's primary objective is to establish interoperability as the standard for all Web3 games by seamlessly integrating players' MetaMask wallets into native or browser-based games. By providing a wallet overlay on top of games, HyperPlay enables players to carry their wallet, tokens, NFTs, and achievements across different games.

This approach fosters an open and developer-friendly environment, promoting technical innovation and empowering developers to create games with greater Web3 utility.

Pierre Planche, a partner at Griffin Gaming Partners, expressed enthusiasm for HyperPlay's mission, stating, "HyperPlay ensures there is a home for games that is open and developer-friendly, encouraging technical innovation in games and accruing more value to developers versus traditional constructs."
"The platform will enable a better overarching user experience for gamers across all games, thanks to a persistent data layer for discovery, assets, profiles, achievements & more."
Despite the remarkable growth of Web3 gaming in recent years, most Web3 games have remained confined within walled gardens, limiting the potential for interoperable use cases that developers aspire to create.

Game developers who aimed to incorporate Web3 features into their games often faced challenges such as censorship, deplatforming, and exorbitant fees imposed by Web2 monopolies like Apple and Steam. HyperPlay's successful funding round underscores the critical need for seamless interoperability within the Web3 gaming ecosystem.

Following the Series A raise, HyperPlay plans to scale its operations, enhancing its flagship game launcher and expanding its presence on an international scale. Malte Barth, a partner at BITKRAFT Ventures, praised HyperPlay's developer-first approach and their unique offering in the market.

"Giving game developers the freedom to deploy on any chain they choose, while allowing players to carry their wallet, NFTs, tokens, and achievements into every game, sets them apart from others in the space," Barth commented. He also suggested the potential for HyperPlay to extend its reach to mobile platforms and Web2 games in the future.

The collaboration with MetaMask has been instrumental in HyperPlay's journey. By leveraging MetaMask's capabilities, HyperPlay empowers developers to build new and immersive gaming experiences.

Ezgi Cengiz, Senior Product Manager at MetaMask, expressed support for HyperPlay's disruptive influence, stating, "We are delighted to continue supporting HyperPlay as it disrupts not only the Web3 gaming landscape but the broader Web2 gaming industry as well."

HyperPlay prides itself on serving both developers and users alike.
In contrast to Apple and Steam, which impose a 30% tax on game developers, HyperPlay prioritizes the interests of developers.
It refrains from taxing in-game economies, instead monetizing optional features such as on-ramping or token swaps. On the user side, HyperPlay supports all EVM-compatible chains, enabling players to seamlessly bring their wallets, tokens, and NFTs into every native or browser game.

With an in-game wallet overlay, HyperPlay eliminates the need for users to exit the game and navigate separate websites for NFT transactions.

While HyperPlay currently supports games on all MetaMask-supported chains, the platform has hinted at forthcoming special features tailored specifically for the Mantle L2, an Ethereum scaling solution with a strong focus on gaming.

JacobC.eth, the Founder of HyperPlay, expressed the company's dedication to empowering developers and users in the Web3 gaming realm, saying, "Since announcing HyperPlay in November of last year, we've been focused on building a platform that empowers both developers and users to effortlessly navigate the Web3 gaming realm.

"We look forward to leveraging the capital raise to strengthen our product as the premier Web3 gaming platform and continue to expand our global footprint."

The Series A announcement from HyperPlay arrives just as Game7's 3XP Gaming Expo is happening this week, a highly anticipated event that brings together prominent publishers, brands, and thought leaders to shape the future of gaming. As of now, the HyperPlay game store offers a diverse selection of over 33 Web3 titles.
