- One of the creators of the Sci-fi movie “District 9” heads the launch of this game.
- The Avalanche Cortina upgrade will be activated on the Fuji testnet on Thursday.
Avalanche – one of the prime movers of Web3 in the gaming industry – will facilitate the launch of a subnet “GUNZ” exclusively for the new video game called “Off the Grid” from Gunzilla Games.
Notably, this impending game launch from Gunzilla Games is headed by the director of District 9 – a 2009 Sci-Fi movie. Off the Grid (OTG) is a traditional AAA shooter Battle Royale 2.0 that unifies Web2 and Web3 gamers. The game studio affirmed the upcoming game’s compatibility with PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
The Battle Royale 2.0 encompasses a background setting that seems to be a virtual replica of Sci-Fi movies like District 9, Chappie, and Elysium. Supposedly, the director of the above movies, Neill Blomkamp, heads the launch of OTG as the Chief Visionary Officer of Gunzilla Games.
Alongside District 9’s director, this game boasts a line-up of famed creators who contributed to its salient cyberpunk narrative. The list included Richard K. Morgan, the author of “Altered Carbon” and Olivier Henriot, who was once a part of “Assassin’s Creed” and “Far Cry.”
Gunzilla Games upholds its objective of enabling Web3 features via the GUNZ software development kit (SDK) built on the Avalanche subnet. To highlight, it launches NFT minting engine allowing gamers to convert their in-game assets into NFTs. Thereby, the play-to-own aspect of the game is bolstered by this. Furthermore, it paves the way for a crypto economy within Off the Grid (OTG).
Avalanche’s Upcoming Update
Seemingly, the Web3 ecosystem of Avalanche games is on a bullish expansion pace. This is evident from its recent collaboration with popular gaming and esports studios. Moreover, Avalanche began this year by announcing its prominent collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The blockchain network has scheduled the activation of the Cortina upgrade on the Avalanche Fuji testnet today at 3.00 PM UTC. This upgrade is expected to activate protocol optimizations on three sub-chains of Avalanche. Firstly, it initiates the “linearization” of X-Chain, making it a “totally-ordered blockchain.” Secondly, it increases the gas limit of C-Chain to 15 million. Thirdly, it batches the distribution of delegators’ rewards on the P-Chain.
In the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap’s data, Avalanche (AVAX) was down 1.39% at $17.94. Thus, at press time, the AVAX supply in circulation held a value of $5.85 billion in the crypto market.
