Big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) company Palantir Technologies recently released a historical Q3 earnings report, yet its stock (Nasdaq: PLTR) dropped 3% shortly afterwards. Below, CoinPedia explores the core reasons behind this divergence.
Summary of Palantir’s record-breaking Q3 earnings report
According to the tech firm’s quarterly financial report, revenue came in at $2.31 billion, representing a 96% year-over-year (YoY) increase while beating Wall Street expectations of $2.18 billion.
Additionally, Palantir reported adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.44, topping the estimated $0.41 and constituting a 109.5% YoY surge.

Net income and free cash flow were registered at $1.128 billion and $1.216 billion, respectively, comprising a 137% and 125% spike compared to the previous year.
And since its founding in 2003, the company’s US commercial revenue ($984 million and up 148% YoY) surpassed its US government revenue ($953 million and up 96% YoY).
Initially, Palantir saw the vast majority of its cash come from its Palantir Gotham platform that specializes in defense, military intelligence, and government agencies. Trailing this was Palantir Foundry, the data operating system built for private corporations, and Palantir AIP, the AI platform supercharging Foundry.
However, the latest report shows an inversion in these metrics, making it a mainstream corporate AI powerhouse. This also calms investor anxiety over government budgets having a ceiling and long approval periods.
Forward guidance
Palantir sharply raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to between $8.530 billion and $8.534 billion, equivalent to about 91% YoY growth.
Palantir stock (PLTR) reaction and prediction
At market close and before the earnings report, PLTR stock had fallen 3.13% to $178.34. The dip was part of a broader risk aversion out of high-valuation AI equities.
Following the report, share value spiked by as much as 4% as the market absorbed the significant earnings beat.
At press time, however, these gains had been mostly erased (-3.11%) for several reasons.

Other than macro AI sector de-risking following Alphabet and Meta’s AI monetization uncertainties, the stock also dipped due to stretched valuation multiples. Palantir is trading at a forward Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio of 97x, where the baseline usually ranges between 15x and 20x. This means its stock was priced to perfection, and so investors used the initial upward movement to sell and lock in profits.
Furthermore, Palantir locked down 64 deals worth at least $10 million in Q3. While this brought its total contract value to $2.92 billion, its net new contract signings barely grew, showing derailed momentum.
Still, analysts’ average recommendation for PLTR stock is “overweight”, with an average target price of $216.38.
