Wells Fargo plans to introduce tokenized deposits for corporate and commercial customers this fall, marking another milestone in traditional finance’s shift toward blockchain technology. The initial rollout will support U.S. dollar and British pound transactions while giving participating businesses access to around-the-clock settlements.

Moreover, the bank aims to modernize cross-border payments without changing how clients access existing banking services. The launch also reflects growing competition among major financial institutions as they embrace blockchain to improve payment efficiency and meet rising demand for faster global transactions.

24/7 Payments Enter the Banking System

The new service will automatically route eligible transactions through tokenized deposits whenever they offer faster processing. Consequently, businesses can transfer funds between accounts, subsidiaries, and trading partners at any hour.

Weekend and holiday payment delays will no longer limit qualifying transfers. Additionally, clients can automate payments through programmable smart contract features that execute transactions once preset conditions are satisfied.

Broader Expansion Planned for 2027

Wells Fargo also confirmed that tokenized deposits will maintain the same regulatory protections and deposit insurance eligibility as traditional deposits. Furthermore, the platform operates on the bank’s proprietary blockchain infrastructure, which supports future connectivity across multiple blockchain networks.

The bank expects to expand the service throughout 2027 by adding more currencies, countries, and eligible corporate clients. That strategy strengthens Wells Fargo’s digital payments portfolio while reinforcing Wall Street’s accelerating move toward blockchain-powered financial infrastructure.
