Bhutan and Cumberland DRW Sign MoU to Develop Digital Asset Infrastructure

Bhutan and Cumberland DRW have signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue a multi-year partnership focused on building digital asset and financial infrastructure within Gelephu Mindfulness City, according to an announcement released Monday.

The agreement outlines cooperation on developing digital asset frameworks, infrastructure for digital asset activity and artificial intelligence computing, and potential yield-related initiatives tied to Bhutan’s digital asset holdings. The partnership also includes work on talent development and institutional capacity, with Green Digital Ltd., an entity of Gelephu Mindfulness City, serving as the local implementation lead. Green Digital is developing computing facilities powered by renewable energy to support blockchain networks and related infrastructure, the release said.

Bhutan has already taken steps to integrate digital assets into parts of its national strategy, including sovereign Bitcoin mining powered by hydropower, the use of blockchain-based digital identity systems, and limited crypto-based payment options for merchants and tourism services.
