Digital Ruble Massification Bill Discussed by Russian State Duma
More and more countries are introducing central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) as part of their payment systems. The State Duma, equivalent to the U.S. Congress’ lower chamber, has approved the first reading of a bill that prepares the Russian economy for the introduction of the digital ruble, the Russian CBDC.
The bill, discussed first by the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets, establishes the concept of a universal QR code that will be adopted by banks and retailers to ease payments using the digital ruble.
