AirBNB, the online accommodation marketplace, could soon accept cryptocurrency payments this year, according to the company’s CEO Brian Chesky. The move comes after the company had received plenty of requests related to crypto payments.

AirBNB Could Add Crypto Payment Support

In a tweet posted on January 5, Brian Chesky stated that adding support for crypto payments has been the top suggestion among customer requests this year. The responses came after Chesky asked his social media followers what the rental company could launch in 2022.

Following crypto payments, clear pricing displays, a loyalty program for guests, updated cleaning fees and improved customer service were also the most requested services among their customers. He further added that the crypto payment support is inclusive of a variety of token ideas. This means Airbnb’s potential support for cryptocurrency payment will not be limited to just one or two tokens.

While the company had no plans to consider bitcoin or any cryptocurrency as a mode of payment in the past, the CEO told Fox Business in September that his company was getting plenty of requests from customers related to cryptocurrency payments. At the time, he said:

We get a lot of requests, I’ve been getting it for years, I have nothing to announce on it today.”

In an IPO filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), AirBNB showed interest in the adoption of emerging technologies, including tokenization, cryptocurrencies, and other applications of blockchain technology.

Back in 2016, the online rental marketplace even bought the bitcoin tipping service ChangeTip.
