American Movie Theatre chain AMC Entertainment will now accept Bitcoin (BTC) for online ticket and concession payments in addition to cryptocurrencies like Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

AMC Theatres Will Accept Crypto Payments for Movie Tickets

"Cryptocurrency enthusiasts: you likely know @AMCTheatres has announced we will accept Bitcoin for online ticket and concession payments by year-end 2021. I can confirm today that when we do so, we also expect that we similarly will accept Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash."

The announcement was initially revealed earlier last month during the AMC earnings call where the CEO said that the crypto payments will be applicable to its theatres in the United States.

On the earnings call, Aron said that the movie theatre chain will set up the IT systems to accept Bitcoin by the end of 2021. At that time, AMC said that it is "in the preliminary stage" of exploring opportunities to dive into the cryptocurrency space.

Aron credited his work on the board of acquisition firm Centricus, which is in the process of buying a startup that specializes in blockchain technology for helping him learn about cryptocurrency and inspiring him to allow bitcoins as a payment option for AMC.

Crypto Payments Goes Easier for Retailers

The move follows in the footsteps of Quiznos, which recently announced that it will accept Bitcoin for sandwiches in test markets, and Burger King Brazil saying that it will accept payments in the Shiba Inu meme currency, Dogecoin, but only for the dog treats that it sells.

Tesla initially allowed customers to make purchases using bitcoins, however, CEO Elon Musk later halted it citing environmental concerns. At a recent crypto conference, Musk said Tesla will "most likely" accept Bitcoin again when it becomes more environmentally friendly.
