The Altair upgrade on the Ethereum beacon chain went live on Oct 28. After the successful process, the price of Ether went up by around 7.6%, hitting a new all-time high of $4.400.

The Beacon Chain is the first step of Ethereum's new Proof of Stake blockchain. It will merge with the mainnet to finalize the process of consensus mechanism change.

Data from Beacon Chain show that currently, there are around 250.815 active validators on the protocol, 249.033 of which are active and 1546 inactive. With Altair, the network adds light client support, changes in the protocol economy design to simplify the management of validator rewards.

Ethereum's complete upgrade from PoW to PoS is expected to end by mid-2022.

In the blockchain, a light client, otherwise called a light node, is a piece of software that connects to full nodes and interacts with the blockchain without needing to run 24/7 or input data.
