The Shanghai upgrade, also known as the Shapella upgrade, is a hard fork planned for April 12, 2023. One of the most major developments related to the fork is the ability of stakers and validators to remove assets from the Beacon Chain. Shapella is a mash-up of “Shanghai” and “Capella,” two of the planned Ethereum Improvement Proposals.

Albeit, Shanghai appears to have a primarily favorable public perception. The change will bring about significant technical advancements for the network. As per reports, there are currently 18 million stETH. This sum is worth roughly $34 billion and represents a sizeable percentage of Ethereum’s $227 billion market cap. The update might impact pricing if a sizeable amount of ETH is put into circulation.
