France-based game publisher, Ubisoft has launched One-Shot League, an Ethereum based fantasy soccer game. Developed by Ubisoft Strategic Innovation Lab and Sorare, the free-to-play game is built around collectible cards in the form of Non Fungible Tokens. They have partnered with Jupiler Pro League, the professional soccer league of Belgium.

One-Shot League

One-Shot League will be a competitive free-to-play fantasy soccer game, available to play starting today. Here, 100 officially licensed teams and leagues from the world are going to participate. Players must have a Sorare account and some premium digital Sorare cards called NFTs. The players use digital cards based on professional players.

Sorare published a blog saying players had the chance to win rare cards:

“We’ve worked with Ubisoft to reward the best and most strategic managers, both on the matchday leaderboard and the season leaderboard. For the final season leaderboard, expect some custom Sorare rare cards and some cool jerseys & swag provided by our friends at the Jupiler Pro League for the top-ranked managers…

The game is launching only the Official Jupiler Pro League license out of Belgium, having five match weeks left in the present season.

Crypto Games by Ubisoft

This is not the first time Ubisoft has published about the crypto game. But this time the company has taken big steps that are far more involved than traditional game publishers in the crypto sphere.

In June 2020, Ubisoft has published Rabbids Token, a CryptoKitties inspired collectibles game created to benefit UNICEF.  Ubisoft had also teased a Minecraft-inspired crypto game known as HashCraft, but not released yet.

Coming to the One-Shot League, which comes from Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab division, leads the firm’s Entrepreneurs Lab program for supporting myriad startups in the blockchain space. While Sorare is one of the many crypto startups, that have participated in the Entrepreneurs Lab initiatives including many other projects such as Nine Chronicles developer Planetarium, and Splinterlands.
