Microsoft's next generation of hardware products could include improved support for crypto wallets, according to an Axios report published Monday. According to Axios, documents detailing Microsoft's plans were released as part of Microsoft's ongoing lawsuit with the US Federal Trade Commission, which is trying to block the tech giant's $69 bln bid to acquire Activision Blizzard.

According to the documents, Microsoft plans to release a number of new products, including consoles, phones, web browsers, PCs and a new "cloud system". What is important for the crypto industry, the devices are equipped with more advanced support for crypto wallets. Crypto wallets are so called because in the web3 world they function similarly to a physical wallet. However, a crypto wallet itself does not contain any cryptocurrency – rather, it contains privileged credentials (called private keys) needed to access a crypto address on a given cryptocurrency's blockchain.

In its report, Axios warned that Microsoft's plans may well have changed since the documents were published, and the company has not yet responded to media requests for comment. But still, the fact that one of the most influential technology companies in the world is looking to make greater use of cryptocurrency across a number of its devices is a major positive catalyst for cryptocurrency in general.
